How do I activate a new Blackberry device without needing a new activation password?

Step 1)

You will need to have the BlackBerry Desktop Manager software installed on your desktop and the USB cable connected to your computer. (The software should come with the device on a CD.)  If you do not have the software it can be downloaded from this site: http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/.

Step 2)

Your desktop needs to be a computer that you use to access your UNT Exchange mail account via Outlook (not the Web Client), and has your Outlook Profile properly set up.  If assistance is needed, contact your IT Support Staff.

Step 3)

Before moving on, make sure that your device is backed up on the computer.

Step 4)

Your NEW device should be as ‘clean’ as possible. If needed, to securely wipe the new device, do so here: Settings --> Options --> Security Options --> General Settings.  Select ‘Wipe Handheld’ and follow the instructions presented.

Step 5)

When the device restarts and is ready, make sure the Time Zone, Date, and Time are set correctly: Settings/Tools --> Options --> Date/Time. Now you’re ready to activate your new device.

Step 6)

Start Outlook for your UNT Exchange Account and then start the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.

Step 7)

Connect the OLD BlackBerry to your computer and let it do a full backup - especially if you’re not syncing contacts, tasks, and notes wirelessly. If this is the first time you're running BlackBerry Desktop Manager, your BlackBerry should automatically connect to the Blackberry Enterprise Server and Exchange servers.

Step 8)

Now connect your NEW BlackBerry to your computer.  Desktop Manager will ask if you want to associate the new PIN with the profile used for the old PIN. Say Yes, and you’ll be asked to create a new encryption key, so follow the instructions presented.

Step 9)

When you’re is finished associating your NEW BlackBerry with the new PIN, LEAVE YOUR DEVICE CONNECTED and on your new BlackBerry, do an Enterprise Activation and watch the progress.  Typically, it will speed through the first part of the activation process, and then take longer on the last part of the activation - usually syncing the Address Book.
