Office Communicator setup for Windows users.
This tutorial is for those who are operating Office Communicator and are not connected to the UNT Active Directory. If you have Office Communicator installed, and are operating from a remote site (hotel, home, on the road), you may be required to login using your UNT credentials (see step 5 below).
If you are logged in to your computer on the UNT Active Directory network, Office Communicator needs no configuration, and may be launched from the Programs menu in Windows.
After you have obtained and installed the Office Communicator Client for Windows, you may follow the instructions below for configuring your access. These instructions pertain to those people who will be running the OCS chat client from home or away. Mac users may look here for instruction.
Step 1)
Launch the Office Communicator.
NOTE: If you are authenticated to the UNT Active Directory, then you may not need to make any configuration changes. The OCS client should automatically pull all the settings from your domain login.
Step 2)
Go to the Communicator properties.
in theupper left hand corner of the communicator window, there is a little (very little) arrow. Click this arrow to reveal the menu system for Office Communicator.
Step 3)
Under the personal tab, enter your Exchange (firstname.lastname@unt.edu) email address.
Step 4)
Click the "Advanced ..." button to reveal the next window. Make sure that the Automatic Configuration settings have been selected.
Click OK to save and close this window.
Step 5)
When you complete the previous step, OCS will attempt to log you in, and it will fail. This is expected since you are not authenticated (logged into) the UNT domain.
Soon you will be presented with a login window as follows. Fill it in with your appropriate information as noted in the image below.
- Your email address as it appears in Exchange
- UNT\EUID
- EUID Password
