AD Forest/Dept Overview

The current design for the UNT System Active Directory Forest consists of  a forest root that will contain campus domains for UNT Campus, Health Science Center and Dallas Campus along with some administrative systems. Under each campus domain we will create a hierarchy of OU’s consistent with the EIS financial hierarchy when possible/appropriate. The final structure will be determined once the assessment phase is completed.

Administration of the individual OU’s will be delegated to the support departments as it is done currently in the Novell environment. There are two main differences from the current Novell model: departmental servers will not be replica holders for the AD database and the user accounts will be created and maintained programmatically from the data in EIS. This means that account naming conventions, user data and passwords will be consistent throughout the UNT system.
