File/Print Administration

Once the UNT Active Directory is in production and the Exchange move is complete, the next phase of the migration is to move to Windows servers for file and print services. The administration of these servers and services under Active Directory will be delegated to the appropriate departmental support group.

When the services in a department’s area are migrated to Microsoft servers, the current plan is to move user data and permissions but not actual accounts. This will allow us to start out with a clean and consistent environment that can be easily maintained.

File servers will reside in the departmental OU and will be managed by the local support staff. These servers can opt-in to a central patch-management and monitoring system once in production. CITC will also be offering a central storage solution in the future that will allow access to a file store for departments that do not wish to maintain servers.
