Smartphone/Blackberry Service Statement
Most wireless devices are shipped with software that integrates natively with Exchange. Because no additional server software or hardware is required, CITC will discontinue its central support for wireless devices, and will defer all support calls to the departmental IT management teams.
Blackberry devices are not natively supported with Exchange. To provide continued support for Blackberry device users, CITC will continue to manage a BES server.
CITC will continue to provide second tier support to departmental IT management teams which have Blackberry device users in their departmental scope. Blackberry device owners will contact their local IT support personnel, who will work in conjunction with CITC to configure accounts and devices.
For devices that do not integrate natively with Exchange, users will likely be able to connect to the Exchange system using the POP3 or IMAP mail protocols. Available functions are dependent on the device hardware and software. While CITC does not prohibit the use of such devices, it also does not provide support for them.
Wireless device Active Sync is a native function of Exchange and most users may do so for no additional cost. Blackberry devices users are responsible for arranging for a one-time client license fee. The current cost is $54.90 for that seat. These seats are transferrable.
